Just beneath the surface of the Gulf of Pozzuoli lies one of the most extraordinary archaeological sites in the world: the sunken city of Baia, known as the Underwater Pompeii.
Two thousand years ago Baia was the most luxurious resort of the Roman Empire, a playground for emperors and senators. The slow rise and fall of the ground in the Phlegraean Fields, known as bradyseism, gradually lowered the coast into the sea, preserving villas, mosaic floors, statues and thermal baths underwater.
A boat takes you from the diving centre to the heart of the park. With mask and snorkel, you float over ancient streets and marble courtyards in clear, shallow water, while an expert guide brings the stories of the site to life. No diving experience is needed: if you can swim, you can explore Roman history from above.
All the equipment is included, and back at the diving centre you have changing rooms, showers and a place to rinse and store your gear. When booking you can choose the experience only, or add a private transfer with pick-up only, or with pick-up and drop-off.
Itinerary
- Diving centre: Welcome, briefing and snorkeling equipment.
- Boat transfer: Short boat ride to the Underwater Archaeological Park of Baia.
- Snorkeling the sunken city: Guided swim over Roman villas, mosaics and statues.
- Return: Boat back to the diving centre, with showers and changing rooms.

- Meeting point: Via Miliscola 163, Pozzuoli, inside the Lido Montenuovo Beach.
- Minimum age: 12.
- Participants must be able to swim.

- Door-to-door comfort: with the transfer rates, we pick you up at your hotel or holiday home in Naples or anywhere within 10 km of the city centre, Portici included. Just add your hotel name when booking.
