The excavations of Herculaneum reveal to the visitor a Roman city buried in a few moments by the violence of Vesuvius in 79 AD, in an excellent state of conservation.
The city was covered by a flow of pyroclastic material, which transformed into mud stratified on the city for about 23 meters. Thanks to the particular type of burial on this site, entire wooden structures, decorations, everyday objects and about 300 skeletons of the victims have remained intact.
