Only one volcano in the world towers over a great city and an entire bay: Vesuvius. Today you reach its summit.
From the car park at about 1,000 metres, the trail zigzags through lava rock and pioneer vegetation to the rim of the Great Cone, at about 1,170 metres. Along the way your private guide tells the story of the Somma-Vesuvius complex, from the great eruption of 79 AD to that of 1944, and points out the Valle del Gigante and the Vesuvius Observatory, the oldest volcano observatory in the world, founded in 1841.
At the top you look into the crater, where light fumaroles still rise, while below you the Bay of Naples opens up, with Capri, Ischia and the Sorrento Peninsula.
An emotion that lets you feel the breath of the earth.
